Newton's Hot and Cold New Orleans, LA

The French Quarter of New Orleans has a plethora of restaurants from which to choose, however I have a favorite little hole-in-the-wall shop that is a respite from the crowds of Bourbon Street.  Newton's Hot and Cold, located at 509 Dumaine Street, is just a short walk away.

We found this place quite by accident and I am sure glad we did! Newton's has an amazing selection of handcrafted Sicilian Gelato. A lot of their flavors are seasonal and only available for brief windows of time. I discovered they have an incredible Cardamon Gelato.

Words cannot express the rich flavors in this gelato. Suffice it to say it was so delicious I went back twice before we left just to get in on the goodness I would not have access to until our next trip. Yes, they have ice cold Coca Cola in bottles too!

Newton's was started by 4 guys who all worked together at another restaurant prior to the owner deciding to retire. Luckily all the best recipes from that place were gifted to the guys and Newton's Hot and Cold was born. They found the space they are currently in and have big plans to expand it over time. Meanwhile it is quaint and has tons of character.

While we sat enjoying our treats a steady stream of locals came in and out. One rule of travel is to go where the locals go for the best food. The prices were good as well.

There are many other things on the menu besides gelato including Stromboli, Pulled Chicken, and Muffalata. Plus they have fresh soups and baked goods. The menu is evolving and new foods added regularly. Every visit is a gastric adventure!

Prior to our flight home we swung by and purchased a couple of homemade soft granola-like bars which were a saving grace when our flight was delayed and we were beginning to get "hangry."

Don't take my word for it, check out Newton's Hot and Cold for yourself. You won't be disappointed. After, tell us about your experience in the comments below.
